Santarém, the old Scalabis

You may have already wondered why the name “SCALABISCUP”. In fact, the city that hosts our competition – Santarém – was called Scalabis centuries ago. Just by its ancient origin, you can see that our city has seen a lot of historical events and has evidence of many civilizations.

The capital of the Gothic

Santarém is also known as the capital of the gothic. The small historical center is full of churches, convents and fountains built between the 13th and 15th centuries that worth a visit.

Breathtaking Sights

Santarém is bathed by the Tagus river which can be seen from different viewpoints.
From the “Portas do Sol” Garden, one of the main attractions of the city, we can contemplate the river and a beautiful flat land. This garden in surrounded by the walls of the old castle.
